Vallarpadam International Container Transshipment Terminal (ICTT), also known as Vallarpadam Terminal locally, is a pivotal infrastructure project boosting Kerala’s economy and employment landscape. The terminal is located on Vallarpadam Island in Kochi, Kerala, and is a part of the Cochin Port.
India’s First SEZ-Based Container Terminal
It is the first container terminal to operate in a SEZ (Special Economic Zone), an area where business and trade laws differ from the rest of the country. Development and Expansion Phases
DP (Dubai Port) World commissioned the ICTT on 11 February 2011 and is constructing it in three phases under a long-term concession agreement. They opened the first phase in 2011 with the capacity to handle up to one million TEUs (Twenty-foot Equivalent Units) per annum. In October 2023, they increased the capacity to 1.4 million TEUs after adding six new cranes, including two STS (Ship-to-Shore) megamax cranes. Once all phases are complete, the terminal expects to handle up to 5.5 million TEUs annually.
